Children’s Book Recommendations

This is Not a Book, written and illustrated by Jean Jullien, is an invitation to reimagine what we expect a book to be. It is fun, whimsical, and full of surprises. And not only that, it is the perfect fodder for a creative art project!

The Book of Mistakes, written and illustrated by Corrinna Luyken, is an imaginative journey encouraging us to roll with the punches, see the forest AND the trees, and to trust our creative instincts. The lessons are endless and the illustrations are captivating. I received this book from a family I work with and I have been singing its praises ever since!

Brown, The Many Shades of Love, written by Nancy James and illustrated by Constance Moore, celebrates all the beautiful browns in one child's colorful family. “Mama's brown is chocolate, clear, dark, and sweet. Daddy's brown is autumn leaf, or like a field of wheat. Granny's brown is like honey, and Papa's like caramel.” In this loving and lovely ode to the color brown, a boy describes the many beautiful hues of his family, including his own--gingerbread.
